Santa’s arrives each year to Port Colborne, but in this instance, you won’t see him on his traditional sleigh with reindeer. The jolly fellow cruises in along the Welland Canal aboard a tugboat followed by a chance for kids to meet with Santa at the Guild Hall.
Port Colborne’s annual lighted Santa Claus parade follows in the evening to celebrate the arrival of Santa and the Christmas spirit. The city’s Santa Claus Parade is one of the only lighted parades in the region.
2017 – Watch more than 50 floats & marching bands make their way through Downtown Port Colborne, decorated in lights and festive cheer. The parade begins at Port Colborne High School and finishes at Market Square on Charlotte Street. Children are welcome to visit with Santa at the Guild Hall afterwards and enjoy a cup of fair trade hot chocolate, courtesy of Port Colborne for Fair Trade.
The event is widely popular around the region bringing at times upwards of 5,000 people who line the parade route. Some neighbourhoods even set up tailgate parties offering various nibbles and hot chocolate at different venues. The event brings families and friends together and is a real celebration of community.
Each year the parade starts at Port Colborne High School and ends at the Market Square where children of all ages will have the chance to meet with Santa again after the parade.
